Question: I keep hearing about new procedures that use injectables in place of surgery. Things like Botox browlift and liquid facelift. How effective are these procedures? Answer:
Using non-surgical injectables to treat the aging face are quite effective, particularly in the mid-face fillers can be used with very minimal downtime with excellent results and comparable to surgery in some cases. The Botox browlift does give a small lift to the brows but this would not be comparable to having a surgical browlift. Liquid facelift is very effective and utilizes multiple fillers including Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, etc. to treat the aging face. Posted by

Question: I have deep wrinkles above my lip. Would Juvederm be a good treatment for these? Answer:
Yes, Juvederm is an excellent filler for upper lip lines. We often use it in conjunction with Botox to prevent the muscle from contracting repeatedly as you speak which tends to break down the Juvederm more quickly. Posted by

Question: My chin has a weird texture that I guess is known as 'orange peel' in cosmetic surgery. How can Botox reduce the 'orange peel' appearance of my skin? Answer:
The peau d'orange is a common complaint from patients in the chin region. The muscle of the chin is tightly adhered to the overlying skin and so contraction of the muscle can lead to the 'orange-peel' appearance. Botox is used to relax the muscle and the irregularity of the chin skin. Usually a small amount of Botox is used in two injections sites in the central chin region. Posted by

Question: Does Botox prevent new wrinkles from forming or does it only treat existing ones? Answer:
Botox is both curative and preventative. It treats existing wrinkles and prevents them from deepening. Botox can be used to treat new wrinkles in the areas that are treated; however, we rarely use it on areas that do not presently have wrinkles. Posted by

Question: Is surgery ever used to repair acne scars? Answer:
Yes, occasionally we do treat acne scars with surgery. In our practice we do a combination of a TCA chemical peel, dermabrasion and the carbon dioxide laser to eradicate the acne scars and also blend the treated area with the remainder of the facial skin. For mild acne scarring we also use the Smooth-Beam laser which after several treatments can result in significant improvement in the appearance of mild acne scarring. Additionally, Botox can occasionally be used as well on acne scars. Posted by

Question: I am a 37 year-old female who would like to try Botox for my crow’s feet and smile lines. I am curious as to what if any risks there are. Also, typically how long do effects of the injections last? Answer: Botox is a safe treatment modality and has been used since the 1980s with great results. There is always the risk of bruising but this is minimal. Depending on the strength of your muscles, the effects of Botox can last from 2½ months to 4 months on average after the first treatment. As the muscles involve relax over time, this can lengthen and typically patients require less Botox over subsequent treatments.
