How much is the average monthly cost of BHRT?

Posted by Dr. Allison Pontius in Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement on May 22nd
Question:

I have heard a lot of good things about BHRT and I would like to try it to help me get through menopause. Unfortunately, I do not have medical insurance. How much is the average monthly cost of BHRT?

Answer:

Hormone replacement averages about $30-$40 per month per hormone as reported from our local compounding pharmacy. The visits to the doctor can vary from about $150-$250 for followup visits. Saliva testing, which is occasionally covered by insurance, will additionally incur a fee that can vary from about $25-$180. So there are several costs associated with utilizing bioidentical hormone replacement other than just the hormones themselves. This can be reimbursed by many insurance companies, however if you do not have insurance the average monthly cost would be approximately perhaps $200 spread out over the course of the year.
