Question: I have heard chemical peels can improve the appearance of scars. Are different chemical peels used for different types of scars? Answer:
Yes, chemical peels can improve the appearance of some superficial scars. Ice-pick scars due to acne are rarely improved by chemical peels alone. The deeper the scar – the deeper chemical peel would be required. Acne scars are typically best treated with a combination of a chemical peel, dermabrasion and on occasion, laser. Posted by

Question: I have some broken capillaries at the tops of my cheeks. Can these be treated with the laser and is it safe given so close to my eyes? Answer:
Broken capillaries on the top of the cheeks are commonly treated with the pulse dye laser. We use eye protection and we do not use the laser immediately adjacent to the eyes. But if it is on the cheek area, it should be fine for treatment with the pulse dye laser. Posted by

Question: Is a laser preferred treatment for unwanted facial veins or is there something better? Answer:
Yes, the pulse dye laser is the preferred treatment for spider veins on the face. The pulse dye laser targets the blood vessels directly without damaging the overlying skin and works quite well for facial spider veins. Posted by

Question: I am interested in resurfacing and am wondering if there is one type of laser considered the best or are there different lasers used for different problems? Answer:
Regarding laser resurfacing, there are many different types of lasers that can be used. We typically use non-invasive lasers, such as the Smooth-Beam, GentleLase, or the Pulse Dye Laser. However, the Carbon Dioxide Laser is an option for severe skin damage or wrinkling. So it is best to have a consultation to review these different options and what your particular concerns are and direct you to the appropriate laser. Posted by

Question: Is laser resurfacing safe on rosacea? Answer:
Rosacea is best treated with the V-Beam or pulse dye laser. This is a laser that passes through the overlying skin and targets especially the redness and broken blood vessels common in rosacea. Laser resurfacing may actually cause a flare-up of rosacea given the inflammation to the overlying skin. It depends on how severe your rosacea is. If you are looking to treat that alone, I would use the pulse dye laser. If you are looking to treat wrinkling and sun damage and are trying to do a laser resurfacing for those issues, I would have a discussion as to whether this is the best treatment for you given the rosacea. Question: Will my face be red after my scar revision procedure? Answer:
There are many different methods to scar revision. The recovery and degree of redness will obviously vary, depending on which scar revision technique is used. Some scars need to be excised, and closed in a more favorable manner. Typically, the new scar will remain initially red, and then pink, and may take a number of months for the pinkness to fade. When dermabrasion is used to mechanically irritate and sand down the skin, the skin will remain red for a number of weeks, or potentially a little bit longer. Posted by

Question: Are fennel peels still performed today? Answer:
Chemical peels are a general classification for a number of treatments used to exfoliate skin. Typically during a chemical peel, a chemical solution is applied to the skin and works by dissolving the upper layers of the skin. This creates and stimulates the body-healing response causing new tissue to emerge. The depth and strength of a peel varies based on the strength of the chemicals used. Some chemical peels, such as fennel peels, are so strong that they are able to remove the whole surface of the skin in a manner similar to CO2 lasers. They are the deepest forms of chemical peeling which are not used as often as they had been. This form of peel has generally been replaced by laser treatments. A laser provides a greater and more precise level of control to the practitioner. Most peels today are less destructive and more superficial. There are peels that are offered that are less potent that can also treat severe sun damage as well as reduce wrinkles. Posted by

Question: In my line of work I spend a lot of time in the sun. If I were to have a laser treatment, when would I be able to return to work? Answer: Lasers could predispose you to pigmentation if you spend time in the sun. I would recommend 30 days without sun and the use of a good sunblock, at least SPF 30 prior to sun exposure

Question: I have some really unsightly spider veins and broken capillaries on my face. What are my options for getting rid of these? Answer: The Candela vascular laser is the gold standard for treating spider veins, broken capillaries and rosacea. This laser delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into the target areas that is absorbed by the blood vessels obliterating them.

Question: I used to have beautiful skin and those days are gone. My facial skin looks blemished all of the time. Will laser skin resurfacing even out the skin tone? Will it make my skin look younger? Answer:
There are several ways to resurface the skin and I encourage you to check these out on our website. Basically it sounds like you have the early form of aging with fine wrinkles, some uneven pigmentation as well as spider veins. In our hands, this is best treated with a six-month skin rejuvenation program which includes multiple light chemical peels in conjunction with some laser therapy. |
