Dr. Robert DeFatta

Edwin F. Williams, III, M.D., FACS, is a member of the fellowship program of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). The AAFPRS fellowship requires a year of specialized facial plastic surgery training under the guidance of an AAFPRS surgeon. Dr. Williams has participated as a fellowship director in the program since 1999 and has fostered the surgical expertise of 8 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

The Williams Center for Excellence, and the New England Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Center are pleased to welcome Robert Joseph DeFatta, M.D., Ph D., as this years Fellow to train with Dr. Williams. Dr. DeFatta is a native of Louisiana where he cultivated a love of science at an early age. While in high school, he was selected to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair during his junior and senior year, and both times, he was awarded forth place. He also received an award from the United States Department of Energy, which was presented to the top 10 participants of the nearly 3,000 presenters from all 50 states and 30 countries from around the world. Dr. DeFatta continued his devotion to science while he attended Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelors degree in Biochemistry. While at LSU, Dr. DeFatta received the distinction of Mortar Board Top Ten Freshmen from a class of nearly 7,000 students. While at LSU, Dr. DeFatta was selected for various honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Epsilon Delta. After graduation, Dr. DeFatta entered a combined M.D. / Ph D. program at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport. For his innovative work on cancer gene therapy during graduate school, Dr. DeFatta was awarded a United States Patent, and was later selected as a key note speaker at an international cancer gene therapy conference at the prestigious Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. DeFatta performed his surgical internship and his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. Throughout his residency, Dr. DeFatta gained training in both head and neck cancer reconstructive surgery and facial plastics surgery. His love of this field has led to an extensive publication list, including nearly 40 published journal articles and 4 book chapters. In addition, Dr. DeFatta has had the opportunity to present his research at over 30 national and international symposiums.

In the pursuit of these interests, Dr. DeFatta has moved to Latham, NY, for the mentorship of Edwin F. Williams, III, MD, FACS, a leader in the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. During this year, Dr. DeFatta will continue to advance his publication portfolio while cultivating a deeper understanding of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery under the supervision of Dr. Williams.
