Fellowship Year 2006-2007
Edwin F. Williams, III, M.D., FACS, is a member of the fellowship program of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). The AAFPRS fellowship requires a year of specialized facial plastic surgery training under the guidance of an AAFPRS surgeon. Dr. Williams has participated as a fellowship director in the program since 1999 and has fostered the surgical expertise of 7 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

The Williams Center, Plastic Surgery Specialists, and the New England Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Center are pleased to have had Stephen P. Smith, Jr., M.D., as the Fellow for the year 2006-2007 with Dr. Williams.

Dr. Stephen Smith grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He received his Bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. During his time in Philadelphia, Dr. Smith focused his time studying the concepts and practice of design, and received a minor in Art History. Concurrently, he represented the university as a NCAA Division I varsity wrestler. Dr. Smith graduated summa cum laude (top 1%) from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2001 and was elected to the AOA Medical Honors Society, serving as chapter president. Following a one-year surgical internship at Mt. Carmel Health in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Smith completed an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he received the Medical Director's Citizenship Award, and twice scored the top mark nationally on the specialty training exam. During residency, with his artistic background, Dr. Smith was drawn to a career in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Smith has published articles, and presented research nationally relating to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck. He plans to continue to advance the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery throughout his career with further publications, and educational efforts.

Following his fellowship with Dr. Williams, Dr. Smith will dedicate his practice solely to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery for both children and adults.
