Patients at the Williams Center for Excellence are often treated with the Candela Vbeam pulsed dye laser for rosacea, spider veins and scarring. Based on his extensive experience with pulsed dye laser therapy, Dr. Williams has found that the Vbeam can also be an effective treatment to heal bruising that commonly occurs after surgical cosmetic procedures and at times after Botox and Restylane treatments.

Normally, bruising can take several days or even weeks to heal, however patients that were treated with the Vbeam laser following surgery saw the bruises heal within 24- 48 hours.

Bruising occurs when red blood cells leak into the skin during surgery. When the laser energy from the Vbeam is applied to the bruised area it is absorbed by hemoglobin that is contained in red blood cells and gives them their color. The VBeam is thought to break down these cells therefore healing the bruise in less time.

Based on these findings, a research paper has been submitted to the annual meeting of the American Society for Laser Medicine in Boston Massachusetts held in April of 2006.
