Restylane is an FDA approved synthetic biodegradable hyaluronic acid used for more than a decade in 60 countries. This natural product can be used help enhance areas such as your cheeks, earlobes, glabella, lips and lip lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, tear trough (undereyes) and scars.
Restylane adds volume in two ways: First the gel itself lifts the skin, then the hyaluronic acid attracts and binds with water molecules, providing additional volume. Depending on the area treated, Restylane lasts almost twice as long as collagen injections.
After treatment, any discomfort that patients experience typically fades within a few days. For example, when the lips are treated they may appear swollen and somewhat uneven during the first few days. This look will dissipate as swelling subsides. Normal activities can typically be resumed right away. There are few side effects associated with Restylane including redness, swelling and tenderness. The results of Restylane generally last six months or longer.
Patients should avoid taking aspirin, Motrin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. Johns Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for two weeks prior to treatment. This will help to minimize any bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
