The 6th Month Skin Rejuvenation Program has been designed to improve skin texture and clarity by treating pigmentation problems (brown spots), reducing redness and combating the effects of aging by stimulating the production of collagen.

The program consists of two physician strength tricholoracetic acid (TCA) peels customized to the patients skin type and needs, as well as four non-ablative laser treatments over a six month period. Additionally, specific topical Retin-A creams and basic skin care products are also provided.

During your first visit you will be given instructions on the program components and you will also receive information on your first peel. The nurses will review how to care for your skin during the program and how to use your skin care products. You will also be informed on what to expect and aftercare regarding the peels and laser treatments.

You will then be scheduled for your TCA peel. This will take approximately one hour and has a recovery time of 3-4 days. You will also receive your skin care products which include a facial cleanser, eye cream, daytime protection which contains SPF and a night cream.

Approximately one month after your peel, you will have your first appointment in the Williams Rejuva Center for your first of four laser treatments. The laser treatments that you will receive are non-ablative, which does not affect the skins surface, but rather penetrates directly to the tissue below. Depending on the personalization of your program there will be a combination of Candela's SmoothBeam, Pulse Dye, and GentleLase Lasers. The Cosmetic Nurse Specialist will use a hand piece  that lightly touches the skin to deliver the laser light. You will feel a slight snapping or tingling sensation and a light spray of coolant on your skin. Safety glasses are required during the treatment to protect your eyes. You will have a total of four laser treatments which are scheduled once every four weeks and take approximately 30-45 minutes. There is usually no downtime after the treatment. Some patients may have minimal swelling and slight redness that normally disappears within 24 hours.

These laser treatments will stimulate collagen production and you will also see changes in skin texture, tone and smoothness, as well as the reduction of redness and small spider veins.

At the end of the program, you will have the option of a customized deeper peel. Keep in mind, that this stronger peel will require more healing time, usually 5-7 days.

As part of the program, you will receive Dr. Williams' formulation of Triple Action cream, a combination of Retin-A, a topical steroid and hydroquinone, a skin lightening agent. This also helps to stimulate collagen production, as well as reduce hyper pigmentation (brown spots). Triple Action cream prepares your skin for Retin-A which you will begin at approximately month three of the program. You will be given instructions on when to start and stop each of these products. Retin-A stimulates collagen and acts as a mild exfoliator by thinning the outer layer of the skin allowing the peels, laser treatments and skin care products to penetrate more deeply and be more effective. This type of exfoliation will also help to reduce the appearance of large pores and wrinkles.

All of the treatments you will receive throughout the 6th Month Skin Rejuvenation Program are scientifically proven to stimulate collagen. When this is accomplished, it permanently improves skin texture, tone and clarity to provide a more radiant and youthful glow. With the continued use of the medicated products included in this program you can keep that beautiful glow as you age.

Since I have been experiencing perimenopause, I have had occasional bouts of rapid heartbeat.  It is actually very scary.  Is this hormonal and is it anything to be concerned about? Can it be treated with hormone therapy?

Heart racing and being able to notice your heart beating can be associated with menopause. I would check your hormone levels and replace any deficient hormones and see if the symptoms resolve. Additionally, it would be wise to see your primary care physician to have an EKG performed to make sure there are no additional issues to be dealt with but typically mild symptoms are related to menopause.

Are there any hormone related symptoms other than menopause that are frequently treated with bioidentical hormones?

There are many hormone related symptoms that are related to menopause that we do not necessarily think of other than the hot flashes and night sweats. Other symptoms of menopause include mood changes, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, hair thinning, osteopenia or osteoporosis, weight gain, libido changes, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, etc.
