Q. What causes facial spider veins?
A. Small or large facial spider veins occur as the result of the aging process, sun exposure, stress and child birth. Some ethnic backgrounds are more predisposed to the development of facial spider veins; namely those of northern European decent.

Q. How are facial spider veins treated?
A. Treatment for facial spider veins includes a pulse dye laser procedure that can be performed during an office visit.

Q. What is a Pulse Dye (V-Beam) Laser?
A. The Pulse Dye Laser is a laser that is used to treat benign vascular lesions such as spider veins, angiomas, venous lakes, and rosacea. It works by targeting the red, found in hemoglobin, that makes up the lesion. It also stimulates the production of collegen, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Q. Who is a good candidate for a facial spider vein treatment?
A. Good candidates for facial spider vein treatments include physically healthy men and women who have realistic expectations and are looking to improve the appearance of the facial skin by removing spider veins.

Q. What would I expect during my cosmetic consultation for spider veins?
A. During a consultation for laser treatment of facial spider veins, The Cosmetic Nurse Practitioner will perform a routine examination and discuss your medical history and your goals. Photographs may also be taken of the areas to be treated. We will also discuss the details of the procedure, the potential risks, the recovery and the costs.

Q. Where will the facial spider vein removal treatment be preformed?
A. Laser treatments for facial spider veins are performed in The William's Rejuva Center by highly trained Cosmetic Nurse Specialists.

Q. Is facial spider vein treatment painful?
A. The laser treatment has been described as feeling like the snapping of a rubber band. Patients do not require any medication prior to treatment.

Q. How long does facial spider vein removal treatment take?
A. Depending upon the size of the treated area, a laser spider vein removal procedures can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.

Q. What is the down time/recovery from the laser treatment?
A. Most patients have little or no down time/recovery. If the spider veins are larger and require a higher treatment setting, bruising may occur and could take 7 to 10 day to dissipate. People with fair complexions can sometimes have a "Histamine" reaction, that causes the skin to welt. This is easily treated with a course of Antihistamines, (ie. Benedryl and /or Claritin)and lasts about 24 -48 hours.

Q. Are the results permanent?
A. The results of facial spider vein removal are permanent though new spider veins may form next to previously treated areas as the skin continues to age.

Q. Is facial spider vein removal covered by insurance?
A. A. Financing is available for many plastic surgery procedures.
