Radiesse (Radiance)

Radiesse, is a soft tissue injectable filler able to improve the obvious signs of aging and restore a healthy, vital appearance.

Radiesse, formerly known as Radiance, may be used on many wrinkles, including smile lines or nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and wrinkles at the corners of the mouth. The procedure may also be used for facial shaping and contouring for cheek augmentation, non-surgical rhinoplasty, and chin augmentation. Radiesse is made up of tiny smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres which form a scaffold of sorts on which the body's own collagen can grow. Treatment results in an immediate plumping of the skin during the first three months, along with extended correction for up to twelve to twenty-four months as new tissue regenerates. Good candidates for Radiesse injections include men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of aging on the facial skin. Patients should also be physically healthy and have realistic expectations.

Radiesse treatment is often performed in the Williams Rejuva Center and can take anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to complete. A local or topical anesthetic may be used, after which the Radiesse is injected beneath the skin using a very fine needle. After the procedure, some minor inflammation and swelling can occur, though this usually clears up within two to four days. Patients may also experience some temporary mild discomfort or tenderness. Most patients are able to immediately resume their normal activities.

Patients can typically expect the results of Radiesse to last up to one year. Occasional touch-ups can be performed as needed. The potential side effects associated with Radiesse tend to be minor and may include swelling, redness, edema, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness. When used in the lips, lumpiness may occur.

RADIESSE

Description

Consists of Calcium Hydroxyl Apatite suspended in gel. Because this is a normal constituent of bone, the likelihood of a reaction is rare.

Procedure

Radiesse is injected deeper than Restylane.
Procedure time: 30-60 minutes.

Safety

Injection related adverse reactions, redness and swelling. Tenderness might occur, other reactions are rare.

Duration

Results can last one year and sometimes longer depending on the patient.

RESTYLANE

Description

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in the body where it's most important function is to carry and bind water. Restylane is manufactured in a laboratory as non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) that does not contain animal protein and so does not require a skin test prior to treatment. FDA approved.

Procedure

Restylane is injected under the skin.
Procedure time: less than half an hour.

Safety

Injection-related adverse reactions such as swelling, redness and tenderness might occur. Other adverse reactions are very rare.

Duration

The result is immediate and can last from 4-9 months, depending on the patient.

BOVINE-BASED COLLAGEN INJECTION

Description

Bovine-based collagen is derived from the hides of cows specially bred for the purpose. As an animal product, collagen has to be tested on the patient as a possible allergen four weeks prior to the treatment.

Procedure

Collagen is injected under the skin.
Procedure time: less than an hour.

Safety

Redness and swelling may occur. Allergic reactions are possible in 3 - 4% of patients.

Duration

The result is immediate can last from 2-3 months, depending on patient.

FAT INJECTIONS

Description

Fat injections or liposculpture are performed using the patient's own fat cells (autologous fat) taken from unwanted fat deposits.

Procedure

The fat is injected into the muscle.
Procedure time: one hour.

Safety
