AUTOMATED MICRO-NEEDLING HAS ARRIVED AT THE WILLIAMS REJUVA CENTER!
What IS Automated Micro-Needling and What Can It Do For ME?
While dermal rollers have been in use for years, Automated Micro-Needling ( also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is an innovative technique for enhancing the skin’s overall appearance by reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, red spots and age spots.
How Is The Procedure Done?
The Eclipse Micropen is comprised of 12 tiny sterile disposable needles, pulsating at a high velocity, to produce micro-injuries to the skin. The skin is first treated with a topical numbing cream, followed by application of a hyaluronic gel to prepare the skin. The Micropen then “glides” along the skin, creating tiny wounds. The skin responds to these injuries by increasing its production of collagen and elastin, resulting in a reduction of fine lines, crepiness, and an increased firmness and “glow” to the skin.
Twelve hours following treatment, a growth factor recovery serum is applied to the skin twice daily for seven days, helping to soothe, promote healing, and enhancing collagen production. Because of the controlled injury to the skin, up to 80% of the product will penetrate the skin, as opposed to the more typical absorption rate of only 7-10% dermal penetration.
Unlike its predecessor, the dermal roller, Eclipse Micropen can also be calibrated to penetrate the skin at varying depths, depending on the issues being addressed through treatment and the desired results. For example, a deeper penetration may be more beneficial on areas with large pores, acne scarring, or those persistent brown spots!
How Does It Feel?
While areas such as the forehead and upper lip are more sensitive than others, in general, treatment is only slightly to moderately uncomfortable and has been described as feeling like light sandpaper being moved across the face. The topical numbing cream applied beforehand and the hyaluronic gel both aide in reducing discomfort and making the treatment more tolerable.
What Is The Duration Of A Typical Treatment?
Treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete and we ask patients to arrive 30 minutes prior to their appointment so we can apply the topical numbing cream well in advance of the actual treatment.
What Are The Benefits?
Most patients will immediately notice more glowing, firmer skin, while the longer-term effects are ongoing increased collagen and elastin production for up to six months. Micro-needling also helps with hyper-and hypo-pigmentation, traumatic and acne scarring, as well as stretch marks.
Is There Any Downtime?
Because no heat is involved, downtime is usually much shorter and patients are less red than those being treated with lasers. Total downtime depends upon the depth the Micropen is set at and how many overlapping passes the provider performs on your skin. And, while each patient’s downtime may vary, most patients will experience some redness immediately following treatment, usually lasting between 1-4 days. Some patients will see a return to their normal skin coloring as soon as 24 hours following treatment.
No make-up or sunscreen should be applied and patients should refrain from exercise or exposure to the sun for 48 hours following treatment. Using the growth factor recovery complex as directed, beginning 12 hours following treatment, will expedite the healing process and result in an enhanced result.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Many patients will notice an immediate change in the overall tone and appearance of the skin, typically describing it as a more glowing, dewy, toned, and refreshed appearance. Results can continue for up to 6 months following treatment as the body continues to produce increased collagen.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
For most patients, we recommend 4 treatments, spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For those patients with severe acne scarring, photo-aging, or deep wrinkling, additional treatments may be indicated.
