How to Achieve Natural Results Through Plastic Surgery

Schedule a Consultation

Elective procedures are performed because a person is unhappy with his or her looks, and they choose to modify an area of the face. Facial plastics are the best known way to enhance one’s looks and self-confidence, though there can be a counter effect in patients. In some cases, the patient experiences overcorrection. This not only appears less natural, it can be unattractive or cause damage to one’s self-esteem by creating a distracting feature. When this feature has already been a source of discomfort, the negative feelings can become amplified. Patients and those interested in facial cosmetic procedures should be aware of the best treatment plans so they can enjoy optimal results.

Do Research

Though the doctor-patient consultation is the initial appointment in the course of the transformation, patients can use the Internet or other means to check out procedures and methods in facial plastics that may best suit their needs. Because there are so many options available, this preparation provides an interactive platform for the doctor and patient to have a conversation necessary to the process.

There are a number of ways to improve facial aesthetics, and facial plastic surgeons can provide different contouring, both through surgical intervention and non-surgical procedures. For example, anti-aging surgeries may include a brow lift, forehead lift, a facelift,  or a ‘weekend  facelift’. Less invasive ways to treat the signs of aging are laser skin resurfacing and dermal injections, such as Juvederm or Radiesse. By customizing the procedure for each patient individually, the doctor can achieve facial harmony and a realistic look. Existing patients and potential patients can view Dr. Williams’s webpage, and review options available through Williams Center Plastic Surgery Specialists as well as Williams Rejuva Center.

Know What Modifications You Seek

Patients do not have to be familiar with the exact surgery or procedure that would create changes in their face, but they should be able to articulate what it is that they dislike about their appearance. A great way to convey this message is by bringing photographs to the consultation, where the patient can explain what they like or dislike about their features, or admire in another’s looks. By viewing actual features close up and at different angles, the patient can better explain his or her needs. The patient can tell Dr. Williams what they would like the final result to be, and the doctor can formulate a treatment plan to reach that aesthetic goal. Those who visit the doctor do not need to be experts in, or even versed in facial anatomy. Instead, he or she could simply state the desire to have a smaller nose, or a more prominent chin. The doctor may then suggest a rhinoplasty to improve the look of the nose, and a chin augmentation through an implant to create more defined chin. The doctor is an expert in facial aesthetics and can guide a patient through a treatment plan that suits his or her needs, and preserve unique features that make a person look authentic.

Understand Limitations

There are a number of factors that contribute to successful facial plastics, and it is important to recognize the variants. The patient’s anatomy may present challenges to the surgeon, and can limit the possible modifications. There are also restrictions with the biocompatible materials used in facial plastics. Juvederm is an ideal dermal injection to create a fuller set of lips, but the material provides volume with limitations. A patient may also seek a facial transformation that would require a constructive surgery. A string of surgeries can cost more than a traditional facial plastic surgery, and he or she may not be prepared to incur it.
