Is it true that scar revision improves scars rather than gets rid of them?

Question:

Is it true that scar revision improves scars rather than gets rid of them? What does this mean and how significantly improved are they?

Answer:

The short answer is yes. Often scar revision takes a wide unsightly scar and changes it surgically so that it is a fine line in the place where the eye expects to see a line or shadow. Often I inform patients that scars look worse before they look better with patients undergoing scar revision but ultimately after one year the goal is for them to look considerably less noticeable.
