Juvederm is a filler brought to you by Allergan (the company that produces Botox® Cosmetic). It is made from hyaluronic acid and is FDA approved for cosmetic use in the nasal labial folds. Patients with mild to moderate folds respond well to this treatment.
Juvederm is available in two thicknesses: Juvederm Ultra is used for fine lines, and lip enhancement. Juvederm Ultra Plus is more appropriate for deeper lines and folds.
Juvederm is made from hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally in the human body. It works by plumping the area to be treated with a smooth colorless gel containing the hyaluronic molecules, and secondly by drawing water molecules to the area resulting in sustained plumping of the treated area.
Since hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, pre-testing is not needed. Results are immediately evident with Juvederm and improve after one to two weeks. The amount of Juvederm needed to correct or enhance an area will be determined during a consultation with the Cosmetic Nurse Specialist at the Williams Rejuva Center. The amounts needed are dependent on the area to be treated and the amount of correction required. Recent result from FDA tests state results from Juvederm treatment can last up to one year. This differs by patient and area treated.
Side effects with Juvederm are minimal and can include discomfort during the injection, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These side effects, if they occur usually subside within three to seven days. Local anesthesia or numbing cream applied to the area to be treated reduces discomfort.
Juvederm Voluma – Cheeks
As we age we lose volume, particularly in the upper portion or cheek area of the face. This can result in additional sagging in areas of the lower face affecting one’s jowles, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. Juvederm adds volume to your face by augmenting the cheek area so the entire face appears more revitalized and ‘lifted’. Depending on the amount of correction needed, Dr. Edwin F. Williams may recommend either Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus.
The FDA has approved Juvederm to last up to one year. Depending on the area treated, some patients are even seeing up to 18 months of cosmetic results from their Juvederm. Juvederm is produced by Allergan, the makers of Botox® Cosmetic.
Juvederm – Earlobes
Thin, aged earlobes can be filled and plumped with Juvederm. Juvederm is a soft tissue filler made of hylauronic acid which is found naturally in your body. After the Juvederm injection in the earlobe, earrings will hang properly and earlobes will look younger. The FDA has approved Juvederm to last up to one year. Depending on the area treated, some patients are even seeing up to 18 months of cosmetic results from their Juvederm.
Juvederm – Glabella
Juvederm is a smooth gel that is very effective in filling deep lines between the eyebrows (glabella area). In the Williams Rejuva Center this treatment is done, by our Cosmetic Nurse Specialists, as a 2 step process. During the first session we will administer BOTOX®Cosmetic to the glabella in order to relax the muscles which over time have caused the line(s). Two weeks later the patient will return for their second session, when the Nurse will administer Juvederm to the glabella area. We have found that this process not only allows patients to achieve a better result, but that result tends to last longer when BOTOX® Cosemtic is used continously to keep the area relaxed, helping prevent future lines from forming or deepening.
Juvederm is made of Hyaluronic Acid which is found naturally within your body. The FDA has approved Juvederm to last up to one year. Depending on the area treated, some patients are even seeing up to 18 months of cosmetic results from their Juvederm.
Juvederm – Philtrum
The philtrum is the area directly below the nose and above the upper lip just above the ‘cupid’s bow’. As we age, this area flattens and is not well-defined. By injecting a filler, such as Juvederm or Restylane, in this area the lips are more shapely and the area is more appealing aesthetically.
Juvederm – Lip Lines
Lines above the lip are a concern for many patients. These are caused by a breakdown of collagen in the skin and over activity in the muscle around the mouth. First, lip lines are treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic to relax the muscle. This does not affect speech or a persons smile. Around 2 weeks after treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic, Juvederm can be used to fill in the lines. Juvederm is a Hyaluronic acid that draws in volume, effectively smoothing out this area.
Juvederm – Lips
Juvederm produces phenomenal results when injected in the lips. As a soft, natural gel filler that provides or restores volume in the lips, Juvederm can also be used to contour and shape the lips, as well as the Philtrum. Thin, deflated lips will take on a natural looking fullness that lasts. This procedure can also be done in conjunction with a Botox® Cosmetic Lip Eversion for women interested in a little extra ‘omphf’ for their lips.
Another benefit of this product is that it comes in 2 forms: Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra is an ideal option for the woman looking to regain lost fullness due to the aging process, or for the woman simply looking to enhance the current shape or size of her lips. Juverderm Ultra Plus is a great alternative for women with very thin (“pencil”) lips. It has a slightly larger molecule size allowing us to provide a ‘plumper’ fill.
Dr. Edwin Williams’ Cosmetic Nurse Specialists can perform this procedure for you in the relaxing, spa-like atmosphere of the Williams Rejuva Center. The procedure takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to perform. The FDA has approved Juvederm to last up to one year. Depending on the area treated, some patients are even seeing up to 18 months of cosmetic results from their Juvederm. We have had wonderful outcomes with Juvederm giving the lips the soft natural look and feel our patients desire.
Juvederm – Marionette Lines
Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus can be used to treat mild to moderate folds from the corners of the mouth to the chin (marionette lines). Correction in this area leads to a more youthful, contoured appearance. The FDA has approved Juvederm to last up to one year.

Juvederm – Tear Trough
Juvederm contains a high amount of Hyaluronic acid which draws in volume, effectively filling in lines and folds. Results have shown that in the tear trough area, Juvederm can pull in too much volume which can create puffiness. Therefore, you would need to be evaluated so we can find the treatment that will give you the best result. For most patients we would recommend a Restylane treatment.
