Restylane is an FDA approved synthetic biodegradable hyaluronic acid used for more than a decade in 60 countries. This natural product can be used help enhance areas such as your cheeks, earlobes, glabella, lips and lip lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, tear trough (undereyes) and scars.
Restylane adds volume in two ways: First the gel itself lifts the skin, then the hyaluronic acid attracts and binds with water molecules, providing additional volume. Depending on the area treated, Restylane lasts almost twice as long as collagen injections.
After treatment, any discomfort that patients experience typically fades within a few days. For example, when the lips are treated they may appear swollen and somewhat uneven during the first few days. This look will dissipate as swelling subsides. Normal activities can typically be resumed right away. There are few side effects associated with Restylane including redness, swelling and tenderness. The results of Restylane generally last six months or longer.
Patients should avoid taking aspirin, Motrin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. Johns Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for two weeks prior to treatment. This will help to minimize any bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in the body where its most important function is to carry and bind water. Restylane is manufactured in a laboratory as non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) that does not contain animal protein and so does not require a skin test prior to treatment. FDA approved.

Restylane – Acne Scars
Restylane, a soft tissue filler, can be used to fill in mild acne scarring pockets resulting in a smoother appearance. The Williams Rejuva Center’s Cosmetic Nurse Specialists perform this treatment for you. Restylane is an injectable gel containing hyaluronic acid that plumps out these areas. No prior testing is needed because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body. Depending on the amount of acne scars to be filled on your face, the procedure could take 45 minutes to an hour. There is a risk of bruising and swelling with any injections. Typically we would like to re-check the area treated with Restylane in one to two weeks. For deeper acne scaring treatments and facial resurfacing, a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Edwin Williams is required to discuss chemical peels, dermabrassion and/or laser correction with a CO2 laser (combine techniques) may be recommended.
Restylane – Cheeks
Restylane is a soft tissue filler that can be used to augment the cheek area (mid face). The injection of Restylane ads volume to your facial contour and can be used to increase fullness in the cheeks. This cosmetic enhancement reduces the appearance of the nasolabial folds as well as provides a more refreshed youthful apperance by lifting the cheeks to where they were a few years ago. This cosmetic treatment takes approximately an hour to preform. The cheek area is treated is numbed with a local anesthetic prior to the injection of Restylane, making the procedure as painless as possible. Results from a Restylane treatment for cheek augmentation can last nine months to a year.
Restylane – Earlobes
Do you find your favorite earrings hang down more or leaving you with creased earlobes? Restylane can restore volume to aging and thinning earlobes. Not only will this make your earlobes look better, but will also make your earlobes firmer and help with holding your earrings in where they should be.
Restylane is injected around your earing piercing to plump the earlobes. Our Cosmetic nurse specialist will preform this treatment in The Williams Rejuva Center. Patients can expect procedure time to last about an hour. A local anesthetic will be used to numb the areas prior to the Restylane treatment. You can bruise and swell from this cosmetic treatment. Your earrings can not be worn comfortable until swelling is resolved this can take 1-7 days.
Restylane in a soft tissue filler. Restylane will last for 6-9 months in the earlobes.
Restylane – Glabella
Restylane is a soft gel that can be used to fill the creases between the eyebrows, otherwise known as the glabella area, (those which are too deep to be corrected with just Botox) with natural looking results. The glabella area is numbed prior to injection. Results last 6 to 9 months.
Two weeks prior to Restylane injection patients are required to have a treatment with Botox Cosmetic to relax the muscles causing frown lines. This is done to prevent strong muscles from moving the filler post injection as well as prolong the cosmetic results seen by the use of Restylane. It is recommended to continue with Botox treatments in the glabella area post Restylane treament as well.
Restylane – Lip Lines
Restylane can be used to address lines forming along and above the lips.
As we age we find our lips, especially the upper lip and filtrum, begin to lose their shape. Restylane can be used to define or shape the outer lip by injecting the gel into the edge of the lip. Redefining this edge leads to a more youthful and appealing look by restoring the natural contour of the lip. It also helps prevent lipstick “bleeding” into the small lines around the lips.
Not only do we see the loss of shape to our lips but lines begin to form around the lips. This is due to a combination of loss of volume and the active muscles causing wrinkles as we talk, pucker, etc. Restylane can be used to fill in these lines providing the volume needed to give a more yourthful smoother appearance around the mouth.

Restylane – Lips
Many women desire fuller, more sensous lips. Restylane is a soft, natural filler that provides or restores volume in the lips. Restylane can also be used to contour and shape the lips, as well as the filtrum, giving a more youthful appearance to the lips. This procedure can also be done in conjucntion with a Botox Cosmetic Lip Eversion for women interested in a little extra ‘omphf’ for their lips.
Dr. Edwin Williams’ Cosmetic Nurse Specialists can perform this procedure for you in the relaxing, spa-like atmosphere of the Williams Rejuva Center. The procedure takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to preform. Patients can expect Restylane to last approximately 6 months in the lips.
Restylane – Marionette Lines
The aging process causes a loss of volume in the face. The loss of volume in the upper face in turn causes the deepening of both Marionette Lines and Nasolabial Folds (located around the mouth).
The Marionette Lines (lines from the corners of your mouth to the chin), also known as “oral commissures”, are treated the same way as the Nasolabial Folds. When Restylane is injected, the soft gel adds volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles.
Restylane lasts approximately 6 months when injected into mild marionette lines. Preformed by a Cosmetic Nurse Specialist in the Williams Rejuva Center, patients can expect the procedure to take about 1 hour.
Restylane – Nasolabial Folds
The aging process causes a loss of volume in the face. The loss of volume in the upper face in turn causes the deepening of both Marionette and Nasolabial Folds (located around the mouth).
Restylane can be used for restoring a more youthful look to mild Nasolabial Folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). When Restylane is injected into the skin, the gel produces natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted and smoothed out.
Restylane lasts approximately 6 months when injected into mild Nasolabial Folds. Preformed by a Cosmetic Nurse Specialist in the Williams Rejuva Center, patients can expect the procedure to take about 1 hour.
Restylane – Scars
Restylane can be used to reduce the appearance of shallow scars by injecting it into the area of the scar, which fills in and smooths the depressions. Results are immediately apparent. Preformed by a Cosmetic Nurse Specialist in the Williams Rejuva Center, the patient can expect the procedure takes about half an hour to an hour depending on the size and location of the scar being filled.
Restylane – Tear Trough
Restylane can be used to restore volume to hollowness and help alleviate darkness under the eyes. This gives you a more refreshed, less tired look. The best candidate for this type of procedure are patients who are in their 30’s to early 40’s and are not yet ready to have a blepharoplasty (eyelid) procedure or fat transfer.
