How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

Schedule a Consultation

The estimated total cost for liposuction is approximately $6,100 to $9,000, depending on how many areas of liposuction a patient is looking to have. This cost includes surgeon’s fees, operating room (OR) fees, and anesthesia fees.

Liposuction is a very common body contouring procedure performed at the Plastic Surgery Center at Williams. It involves fat removal in specific problem areas with small tubes (or cannulas) connected to a vacuum aspiration device.

Although liposuction is not performed for weight loss, the surgery can make it appear as though patients have lost a significant amount of weight.

Liposuction also reduces the net number of fat cells, making it more difficult to gain weight again in the treated areas.

Before and after results of liposuction surgery

Surgeon’s fee

The surgeon’s fee is calculated based on the surgeon’s expertise, experience, and specialty in performing the procedure.

Although more expensive does not necessarily mean better, it is important to find a board-certified body plastic surgeon who specializes in liposuction. When searching for a plastic surgeon, prospective patients should be cautious when liposuction surgery appears to be priced as a commodity.

This fee also supports the practice, surgical staff, and employees.

Anesthesia fee

The anesthesia fee accounts for the anesthesia used on patients during their liposuction procedure. Liposuction can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the areas treated.

In select patients, this procedure can also be done with local anesthesia with or without light sedatives prior to the procedure

Operating room (OR) fee

The operating room (OR) facility fee accounts for the operating room staff, equipment, and supplies that are being used.

At the Plastic Surgery Center at Williams, we have our own in-house accredited surgery center, and we are able to keep our operating room fees low.

Which areas of the body can liposuction treat?

Some typical areas liposuction is performed are:

  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Back
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Lower legs
  • Knees
  • Upper arms
  • Area under the chin
  • Neck
  • Chest

Multiple areas of the body can be targeted during the same liposuction surgery. During your plastic surgery consultation, you will be able to discuss with your surgeon the problem areas you want to treat with liposuction.

Does insurance cover liposuction?

Liposuction is considered a cosmetic surgery, and therefore will most likely not be covered by insurance. In the case of liposuction for breast reduction, insurance may be able to cover a portion of the cost.

Liposuction recovery: What to expect

Dr. Lloreda performs liposuction as an outpatient procedure, which means patients can go home the same day after surgery. We do require that a competent adult spend the first day with patients after the liposuction procedure.

In the days following a liposuction procedure, patients should expect pain, swelling, and bruising in the areas that were treated. Pain medications are typical for a few days, and then most patients rapidly become more comfortable, though every patient’s healing schedule is unique.

Patients should wear a support garment for six to eight weeks after the procedure. Once the swelling has resolved, the effects of the surgery will be easier to see.

Liposuction complications are rare. There will be bruising and swelling in the treated areas in the first few days, but this is to be expected. In rare cases, liposuction can cause skin irregularities that will most likely lessen over time.
