How Much Does a Facelift Cost?

Many patients considering a facelift procedure understandably want to know the cost of one before fully committing.

Since undergoing a facelift is a significant decision, it’s also one that requires extensive thought and planning.

The cost of facelift plastic surgery can depend on many variables, such as the extent of the surgery being performed and the type of anesthesia required.

Our patients can expect to pay approximately anywhere from $13,000 to $40,000 for their facelift surgery.

At the Plastic Surgery Center at Williams, we customize facelifts to each patient and their problem areas.

Procedures like the deep plane facelift are more invasive. So, a deep plane facelift will cost more, but they yield more natural results that last longer and reverse the signs of aging in the middle and lower thirds of the face.

Less-invasive facelift procedures will cost less because they require a shorter time in the operating room. As a result, recovery time is shorter, but results are not as extensive and long-lasting.

The overall cost of a facelift surgical procedure is broken down into three segments: surgeon’s fee, operating room fee, and an anesthesia fee.

Surgeon’s Fee

The surgeon’s fee for the deep plane facelift ranges from $15,000 to $30,000. For patients who are candidates for more limited facelifts, the surgeon’s fee ranges from $10,000 to $13,000.

The surgeon’s fee accounts for the surgeon’s time, and is calculated based on the surgeon’s expertise and specialty in performing the procedure.

This fee also supports the practice, surgical staff, and employees.

Our facelift surgery results in patients looking younger for years after having the procedure.

There are certainly faster and cheaper facelift techniques that require less expertise, but with that comes more risk and suboptimal results.

At the Plastic Surgery Center at Williams, our preferred technique is the deep plane facelift because of the long-lasting results it produces.

When searching for a plastic surgeon, prospective patients should be cautious when facelift surgery appears to be priced as a commodity.

Operating Room Fee

Our operating room fees for facelifts range from $1,600 to $3,100.

The operating room (OR) fee during a facelift surgery accounts for the operating room staff, equipment, and supplies that are being used.

Any surgery performed under general anesthesia requires front desk staff, a surgical scrub technician, a circulating nurse, and a post-anesthesia care nurse, among other staff members who ensure the day runs seamlessly and get patients ready for their upcoming surgeries.

Our staff is essential in creating a pleasant, efficient, and safe experience in the operating room.

The operating room fee also covers the sterile and disposable supplies, sutures, medications, dressings, etc.

One of the best parts of having our own in-house accredited surgery center is that we can keep our operating room fees low.

For 20 years, The Williams Center has had its own ambulatory surgery center with staff that specialize in working with plastic surgery experience. This contributes to a great patient experience and affordable fees.

Anesthesia Fees

Our anesthesia fees range from $1,200 to $2,500.

Most of our patients undergo general anesthesia during their facelift.

For the patient, this means that you are completely asleep and pain-free for the duration of the procedure. Our excellent anesthesia providers do a phenomenal job making our patients comfortable before, during, and after their procedure.

When undergoing a less extensive facelift, some patients choose to do this under a local anesthesia in conjunction with sedation medication taken by mouth.

In this situation, an anesthesia provider does not need to be present which reduces the overall cost for the patient.

Another important consideration is that the first hour of anesthesia is the most expensive.

Therefore, if you are considering an adjunctive procedure to your facelift, it can benefit you financially to do all of the procedures at the same time.

Does Insurance Cover Facelift Surgery?

Typically, facelift surgeries are not covered by insurance.

For a surgery to be covered by health insurance, there usually needs to be a functional issue that can be addressed surgically after all available conservative and non-surgical options have been attempted.

There are some facial plastic surgery procedures that can have functional improvements with secondary cosmetic improvements, such as rhinoplasty.

However, facelift surgery unfortunately rarely falls into this category because there are not common functional issues that facelift surgery can fix.

Calculating the Full Cost of a Facelift

When taking into account the three fee categories discussed above with consideration given to the extent of the facelift, need for general anesthesia, and addition of any adjunctive facelift procedures, our patients can expect to pay approximately anywhere from $13,000 to $40,000 for their facelift surgery. Facelift surgeries performed in major cities, such as New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, can cost anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000.
