Can You Get a Mommy Makeover With a BBL?

Yes, it’s possible to undergo a BBL during mommy makeover surgery.

The term ‘mommy makeover’ refers to a combination of procedures that can be done during the same surgery — which can include a Brazilian butt lift (BBL).

The most common areas addressed during a mommy makeover are the abdomen, breasts, waist, and buttocks.

The term “buttock enhancement”, just like the term “mommy makeover”, can refer to several different procedures.

Buttocks Enhancement

The buttocks area can be enhanced by increasing the overall volume with the use of implants, fat, or both. When fat is used, this is commonly known as a Brazilian butt lift, or BBL for short.

Another way to enhance the shape of the buttocks area is with a buttock lift, which involves removal of skin and fat from this area.

During a BBL, the fat that is used to enhance the volume and shape of the buttocks is taken from other parts of the body, such as the abdomen, back, and flanks. Typically, the fat is “harvested” with liposuction, then it is prepared for placement, and finally is placed in the soft tissues of the buttocks with the use of special cannulas.

Procedures That Can Be Done During Mommy Makeover

The goal of a mommy makeover is to help restore the shape and appearance of a woman’s body after pregnancy.

Other common procedures that can be included in a mommy makeover are a breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast lift, and labiaplasty.

Advantages of Combining BBL With Mommy Makeover

Surgery takes a myriad of preparation and mental, physical, and emotional energy.

One of the advantages of including a BBL as part of a mommy makeover (instead of undergoing separate procedures) is that the patient only has to have one surgery, go under anesthesia once, and go through the recovery process once.

Combining the two during one surgery also has financial advantages. Patients don’t have to pay two surgery/anesthesia fees or take time off work twice.

Also, by combining a BBL as part of the mommy makeover, this makes the results even more dramatic and rewarding.

Because the buttocks are a continuation of the back and waist, enhancing this area in combination with other mommy makeover procedures such as a tummy tuck and breast enhancement can achieve a full body transformation and give patients the amazing, transformative result they are seeking.

Challenges of Combining BBL With Mommy Makeover

One of the challenges that surgeons face when combining a BBL as part of a mommy makeover is the actual logistics of the surgery.

Most mommy makeovers include some sort of surgery on the abdomen and/or breasts, which involve the patient lying face up.

During a BBL, the patient is typically positioned lying face down. In order to accomplish this, most patients would have to be repositioned multiple times during surgery, which can be challenging for surgical teams that don’t do this often.

However, with an experienced surgical team, the process can be both very safe and efficient. Ensure that the plastic surgeon is board-certified and is very experienced in performing BBL surgery during mommy makeover.

Another challenge is the recovery process involving surgical sites that are both on the front and the back of the patient. This creates a situation in which some patients may have to adjust their sleeping or resting positions during the recovery process.

Fortunately, many patients have undergone mommy makeovers that include BBLs and there are a multitude of special pillows and devices that make this process much simpler and easier.

There are also many support groups and happy patients willing to share their ‘pro tips’ for a smooth recovery.

All and all, while there are some downsides to including buttock enhancement as part of mommy makeover surgery, most patients would agree that the advantages are well worth it.
