How Much Does a BBL Cost?

Schedule a Consultation

A Brazilian butt lift, or BBL, is a very popular surgery that aims to augment the buttocks using the patient’s own fat.

The estimated total cost for a BBL can range from $10,000 to $15,000. This includes the surgeon’s fee, operating room (OR) fees, anesthesia fees, and related expenses.

The cost of a plastic surgery procedure is a question we receive often — and it’s certainly an important topic for discussion. In searching for a plastic surgeon, it’s important to find someone who is experienced and who can offer realistic pricing.

It’s not always optimal to go with the cheaper option, especially when considering plastic surgery. Board-certified surgeons may be more expensive, but this is because their level of expertise and the BBL results they yield warrant a higher cost.

Therefore, it’s important that facilities are transparent about the costs of the surgery.

In order to understand the factors involved in the total cost of a BBL, let’s take a closer look:

Surgeon’s Fee: $5,800 to $10,000

A surgeon’s fee accounts for the doctor’s time and is based on their expertise and experience in performing Brazilian butt lift surgery.

This fee also covers all of the patient’s post-surgery visits and supplies, supports employees, and helps with routine management of the practice. Our plastic surgeons specialize in their specific area of plastic surgery, and our breast & body surgeons have decades of combined experience performing BBL surgery.

We caution patients from choosing a plastic surgeon based on cost alone. Whether it’s your body or your face, this should not be priced as a commodity.

The geographical location of the practice can also have an impact on the overall fee. For example, a BBL in New York City would likely be more expensive than a BBL in a more rural location.

Another factor that can add to the cost of surgery is the estimated amount of fat that would need to be transferred to the buttocks in order to reach the patient’s goals.

Transferring a significant amount of fat requires more time and effort, and also requires much more liposuction to obtain the fat for transferring. For example, a patient that already has some volume and projection of the buttocks and desires a mild improvement in these areas will likely require much less work than someone who has very little shape and contour, and desires a significant change in volume and projection.

It is important to discuss your goals and expectations with your surgeon in order to get the most accurate quote.

The Operating Room (OR) Fee: $3,000 to $4,000

The New England Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Center at The Williams Center is an onsite ambulatory surgery center that has been operating for approximately 20 years.

The Cosmetic Surgery Center is a fully accredited facility meeting all safety and surgical standards.

The OR fee as part of the cost of BBL surgery covers the sterile equipment, medications, and instruments that are used before, during, and after your surgery.

This fee also helps to support the surgical center staff such as receptionists, nurses, and surgical assistants who make the day of surgery a successful and pleasant experience.

One of the benefits of undergoing a BBL at a cosmetic surgery center instead of a hospital is that the surgical staff specializes in specific plastic surgery procedures.

If BBL surgery was performed in a different facility than the plastic surgery practice you choose, that facility would control the fees. This tends to drive up the fee for the operating room.

Anesthesia Fees: $1,700 to $2,500

This fee covers the cost of the provider that will be administering the anesthesia during surgery.

At our surgery center, our top priority is for our patients to have the best surgical experience possible. As such, we only select the best anesthesia providers to take care of our patients.

Keeping patients safe and pain-free is the anesthesia team’s priority, as well as preventing nausea following surgery.

Factors that impact the cost of a BBL

Surgeon’s Experience

Surgeons with multiple board-certifications and decades of experience performing BBL surgery will charge more than surgeons who are newer to the surgery. It’s worth paying more for a surgeon who is experienced and has a good reputation.

Areas of liposuction

Some patients may choose to undergo liposuction on other areas of their body during BBL surgery, such as the stomach, thighs, or arms. This can cost more in operating room fees, because the surgery will take longer, but it will overall cost less than undergoing two separate surgeries.

Location of plastic surgeon

Plastic surgery costs vary widely across the U.S., and the world. BBL surgery in a major city may cost more than in a more suburban area. The Williams Center is a destination practice, meaning patients come here from all over to meet with our experienced plastic surgeons and undergo surgery here.

How is BBL surgery performed?

A BBL is really a two-step process in which first liposuction is performed in different areas of the body such as the abdomen, back, and flanks, in order to remove fat. Then, the fat is transferred via injections to the hips and buttocks to improve the overall shape and projection. The combination of sculpting the back, waist, and abdomen with liposuction, and adding fat to the buttocks, will make a remarkable change in the overall shape and contour.

The overall goal of a BBL, therefore, is to not only improve the buttocks area, but also sculpt the surrounding areas to leave the patient with smooth curves and pleasant transitions between the back, flank, buttocks, and thighs.
