Question:

I was obese four years ago but I have lost a lot of weight and I am stable now. The problem now is, of course, that I have a lot of loose skin around my waist, thighs and buttocks. I have read that there is a procedure that would correct all three areas, a body lift. How long does this procedure take? Is it done under general anesthesia? Will there be any scarring afterwards?

Answer:

Answer:
People who have lost a lot of weight whether on their own or after gastric bypass can be ideal candidates for a body lift. A body lift is essentially a tummy-tuck, thigh-lift and buttock-lift all at the same time. The incision for this would go all the way around, starting at the pubic area extending around the hips all the way to the buttocks. The scar is placed along special lines so that it will fall right under your normal underwear or under garments and will not be seen. The procedure may take 4-6 hours and it is done under general anesthesia. The scar again does go all the way around but because it is placed very low it can be hidden under under-garments or under normal clothing. It is a perfect procedure for someone who has lost a massive amount of weight and has excess skin and laxity along the tummy, thighs and buttocks since it would take care of all three areas all at once.
